Resort at Marina Bay Project to Las Vegas Sands Corporation Straits Times, Singapore,

Singapore, 26 May 2006 - The Singapore
Government announced today that it will award the project
to develop the Intergrated Resort (IR) at Marina Bay
to Las Vegas Sands Corporation ("Sands").
The Ministerial Committee (Tender Approving
Authoruity or TAA) evaluating the four proposals, chaired
by Deputy Prime Minister Professor S Jayakumar, announced
their decision at a press conference this evening. Prof
Jayakumar said, "All four proposers submitted very
strong proposals which reflected their commitment todeveloping
to truly outstanding integrated resort in Singapore".
He added that "Sands had submitted the best overall
proposal that meets our economic and tourism objectives."
Sands committed to the highest development
investment of $3.85 billion. Together with the land
price and other associated capital costs, the total
investment by Sands would exceed $5 billion. This is
one of the largest investments in the worls for a single
IR. The Marina Bay Sands is expected to stimulate an
additional $2.7 billion (or approximately 0.8%) to Singapore's
annual Gross Domestic Product and generate 30,000 jobs
throughout the economy by 2015.

SINGAPORE: The Genting International-Star
Cruises consortium has aced the Sentosa integrated resort
project.
The result, just announced by Deputy
Prime Minister Professor S Jayakumar at a news conference,
came as no surprise as analysts had picked Genting as
a frontrunner right from the start.
Its $5.2 billion Resorts World at Sentosa
will leverage on international brand names like Universal
Studios, which will design 16 news rides specially for
the resort.
Besides the Universal Studios theme
park, there will also be 3 other water-themed attractions,
including a surf pool.
Genting's proposal also includes six
hotels with over 1,800 rooms for both leisure and business
travellers.
Earlier, market watchers had picked
Genting as a favourite to win due to its Asian experience.
The resort is expected to attract 10
million visitors and generate $15 billion in tourism
receipts by 2015.
The Sentosa integrated resort is expected
to be ready in 2010.
The judging panel, made up of seven
ministers, explained their decision.
"Genting submitted the most compelling
proposal overall that best meets our economic and tourism
objectives. In particular, the proposal reflects our
vision for the Sentosa IR as a large-scale, family resorts
with its host of world-class family leisure attractions
and other strong offerings. the attractions will position
Sentosa and draw a significant number of new and repeat
visitors," said Prof Jayakumar.

JOHOR BARU: The Iskandar
Development Region (IDR), which is set to become a new
global growth centre, must be prepared to be globally
competitive to draw investors and businessmen.
Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the IDR has to survive
on its own ability and high standards of performance
based on efficiency, integrity and good governance.
"We must take
advantage of our low cost and the ample space that we
have," he told reporters after the launch of the
inaugural Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA)
meeting at the Pulai Springs Resort here yesterday.

"We must attract
investment from everywhere including the United States,
Europe and the Middle East," he said, adding that
the country was also prepared to employ international
professionals with the necessary skills.
The Prime Minister
also witnessed the MoU signing ceremony for the building
of a hotel and a resort in the development region. Initial
projections showed that IDR is expected to attract a
total of US$105bil (RM370bil) in 20 years. In the short
term, it is supposed to attract some RM50bil in investments
within five years.
It will also have council
of five eminent persons to advice it on various matters
regarding future development.
